If you’ve never come across Bizot, you’re not alone. This is one of the smallest and most cultish domaines in Burgundy, and the wines are notoriously hard to find. Jean-Yves Bizot started out as a geologist before turning to winemaking, and he took over the family domaine in Vosne-Romanée in 1995. His neighbour across the street was none other than Henri Jayer, and the two used to chat about winemaking over the vines. Bizot does things very much his own way: every wine is made with 100% whole bunches, fermented cool in wooden vats, given little or no sulphur, aged in new oak and then bottled by hand, barrel by barrel, without filtration. The Échezeaux is his only grand cru, from old vines in the Les Orveaux sector, some planted as far back as 1924, and he typically makes just five barrels, fewer than 1,500 bottles. These wines are all about purity, perfume and elegance rather than power, and they reward patience.
We are pleased to present the prestigious Echezeaux Grand Cru coming from the 2010 and 2011 vintages and presented in extremely rare, full original cases, as per the attached photos. These cases were purchased on allocation from the UK importer, who Jon worked for at the time, and have been in professional UK wine storage ever since, so the provenance is excellent.
